BLACK STAR CHICKEN

Black Star chickens are first-generation hybrid chickens, bred by crossing a Rhode Island Red rooster with a Barred Rock hen, or vice versa. The result is babies that can be "color-sexed," meaning color easily identifies male and female chicks. Chicks of both sexes are black, but a white spot on the head distinguishes the males. Adult males are black with white barring, while adult females have gold feathers on the neck and breast. Black Stars Hens weigh 5 to 6.5 pounds and Roosters Weigh 7 to 9 pounds. Excellent Dual purpose chickens. Black Star hens are bred to be superb egg layers. They start to lay at about 5 months old. Adult hens will lay five to six large brown eggs each week. They are good foragers and are hardy in winter. Docile and friendly, Black Stars are easy to raise, have a good feed conversion ratio and can make good pets.

Upon Delivery:

Allow cool eggs to warm slowly to room temperature before placing in the incubator. Abrupt warming from 55 degrees to 100 degrees causes moisture condensation on the egg shell that leads to disease and reduced hatches.

We advise that the eggs be carefully UN-wrapped then placed in a cool-humid storage area. Ideal storage conditions include a 55 to 68 degrees F. temperature and 75% relative humidity. Store the eggs with the small end pointed downward over night or 24 hrs. To help the egg settle. Hatchability holds reasonably well up to seven days, but declines rapidly afterward. Therefore, do not store eggs more than 7 days [Remember to include the days in shipping] before incubating. After 3 weeks of storage, hatchability drops to almost zero. Plan ahead and have a regular hatching schedule to avoid storage problems and reduced hatches. Eggs should be placed in an incubator maintained at 99.5 to 100 degrees.

Allowing the eggs to breath, first wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap then placed in a shipping box labeled "FRAGILE HATCHING EGGS ON BOARD PLEASE HANDLE WITH CARE" nestled in with packing peanuts to ensure as safe as a delivery as possible.

Handling Time: Will always do our best to ship with-in 5 business days but due to unexpected conditions [Weather, holidays, weekends, girls on vacation, etc...] please allow us to properly complete your order. Guarantee: Due to the unpredictable possibilities during shipment that is out of our control we apologize in advance that Hatch Rate cannot be guaranteed. Due to this we will always ship at least "2" more eggs then purchased in case of any unfortunate events.

IMPORTANT:

If a package is sent back to us without a Return Authorization Number (via either the delivering carrier's "Return To Sender" option or through the action of the buyer), we will retain ownership of said item(s) and they can be re-shipped at the buyer's expense.

DAMAGED IN TRANSIT Inspect your package(s) BEFORE you accept it from the delivery person!! If you see any damage and/or evidence of tampering on the outer packaging you MUST make sure that the delivery person makes a note of this damage on the delivery receipt. Without this note on the delivery receipt we cannot fix this problem for you. Once you've made sure the note of damage is on the delivery receipt, tell the delivery driver that you refuse to accept the damaged package, then contact our Customer Service right away and tell us so we can resolve the issue.
